Magpie AI began with a conversation in Central Park in August 2025 — Grigori Lev and his son Mikhail, walking and talking through what AI is actually for. Not the speculation, and not the hype — the narrower, more useful question: of all the things this technology now makes possible, which ones solve a problem a real person actually has?
One answer was memory. Every family has someone whose stories are worth keeping, and almost no one gets them written down — not because the stories aren't wanted, but because the work of capturing them is harder than it looks. So we built MemoirAI: an AI that calls older adults on an ordinary telephone, asks the questions a good listener would ask, and turns those conversations into a written memoir their family can keep. No apps, no screens, no typing.
Another was the everyday friction of getting words onto a screen. That became VoiceLite, which lets you hold a key, speak, and have your words appear in whatever you are working in — running entirely on your own machine, with nothing sent to a cloud. A different problem, but the same instinct: find the place where the technology takes real work out of a real person's day, and build only that.
MemoirAI is a phone-based memoir service for older adults. It is offered to individuals and as a group program for senior living communities, insurance wellness programs, and other organizations that want to offer meaningful legacy work to the people they serve. The stories people share belong to them: we do not sell personal data, and organizations receive only anonymized participation metrics — never call content, transcripts, or memoirs.
